Frequently Asked Questions - Carburetor EnhancerA. There are hundreds of ways to improve fuel economy. We are consolidating them in our Super Gas Saver Secrets book. Most people can cut their fuel costs in half using techniques that cost very little or nothing. For technology specific to Eagle-Research: Start with the Carburetor Enhancer (Basic) kit. This is our standard recommendation for carbureted vehicles. Do not proceed with any other fuel saver until you get the Carburetor Enhancer working. If the Carburetor Enhancer does not work, then you have fuel system problems that you need to solve before proceeding. The Carburetor Enhancer is not actually a device, it is a custom tuning technique for carburetors. It is meant to enhance the operation of properly functioning carburetors. It adds a hose and valve on the outside of your carburetor that should have been included inside the carburetor when it was built. (Both carburetor and vehicle manufacturers ARE aware of this technology and have applied it in special cases, like police vehicles.) The parts cost is about $15 and the actual installation time is about 1/2 hour once you know what you are doing. Adjustment takes seconds and then you just drive normally. Most people get at least a 25% gain in mileage (10 mpg to 12.5 mpg), a significant pollution drop and increased performance. The Carburetor Enhancer Manual gives very complete instructions that have already helped over 70,000 people. A. Add the electronic upgrade after you get the basic Carburetor Enhancer working. You need the 'basic' version working or the 'upgrade' will not do you any good. The electronic upgrade allows the Carburetor Enhancer to automatically 'custom tune' your carburetor as you drive, for maximum efficiency and performance. The electronic upgrade gives your carburetor the 'oxygen sensor' fuel feedback control enjoyed by fuel injection systems. Parts cost between $60 and $150 depending on where you get them and it takes about 16 hours to build and install. Whatever gains you got with the basic Carburetor Enhancer, this generally doubles them. Thus if you got a 25% gain from your original mileage, you may expect another 25%. This technology was applied to (on an OEM level) to police carburetors just before the vehicle factories switched to fuel injection. For carburetors, it is 'state-of-the-art' efficiency enhancement and you can build it yourself. Only the basic Carburetor Enhancer is needed to get economy gains out of the HyCO 2A, ER HyZor and Water Injection. You can skip the Electronic Upgrade to the Carburetor Enhancer (or add it later) if you want maximum fuel gains. A. It is theoretically possible because this is a method to custom tune the air:fuel ratio of the engine. However, in many thousands of installations on all types of carburetors (by myself and self-install customers) since 1984, there has not been a single report of any kind on engine damage using the Carburetor Enhancer. The Carburetor Enhancer typically causes the engine's exhaust to be significantly cooler. A. You don't. Throttle Body Injection (TBI) is an early version of Electronic Fuel Injection. TBI only looks like a carburetor. It was quicker to design injectors into a 'carburetor' shaped module than to completely redesign the intake manifold. A. The Carburetor Enhancer requires that you know what a carburetor looks like and that you can operate hand tools such as a hammer, screwdriver and knife. Everything you need to know (and more) is included in the Manual. The Manual was developed over 14 years to answer nearly every question. A. Our new CE adjustment procedure is to keep opening the valve slowly as the engine rpm keeps rising; when the rpm stops rising, stop opening the valve. This procedure tends to help keep people from turning on too much vacuum. A. We usually recommend people to go to with the Ford Motorcraft 2 barrel model 2150 (with manifold adapter if needed). This is (in our opinion) the best all around carb. we've ever seen. It's incredibly simple, yet amazingly efficient (with the CE added). Even switching from a four barrel, you don't lose much power or performance and you get a major leap in mileage. You can tell a 2150 from it's 2100 cousin by the little rods that rise and fall in the ventures as you work the throttle. These small tapered rods make the air bleeds variable as the vehicle uses more or less fuel. This simple function makes the 2150 one of the most efficient carburetors ever manufactured. The Carburetor Enhancer actually enhances the operation of the air bleeds and because the 2150 has one of the best air bleed systems, the Carburetor Enhancer doubles the mileage of these carburetors more than any other. A. Only if the carburetor has factory installed oxygen sensor(s). With the electronic upgrade to the Carburetor Enhancer, you are adding an oxygen sensor to your exhaust. But the Electronic Carburetor Enhancer (that you build yourself) oxygen sensor does not need an EFIE because the carburetor doesn't have a 'factory' computer with inappropriate programming. |
